Are You Addicted to Sugar??
You know you are addicted to sugar or have a “sugar craving” or a sweet tooth if you have that sudden, overwhelming and uncontrollable urge to ‘treat’ yourself on something sweet.
This urge can strike at any time of the day and when it does strike, you feel so ‘lost’ that you actually find it difficult to concentrate on your work till you can dig your teeth into a sinful chocolate, a candy or a slice of cake.
If that is how you lust for sweet treats, it is time you knew you are addicted to sugar or suffer from sugar cravings. Though doctors prefer to call it “carbohydrate addiction“, I hate to use that term. It makes me feel like one of those people who are hooked on to those deadly chemicals and alcohol!
The Vicious Circle
Binging on high sugar foods helps increase the levels of blood sugar which also leads to an increased secretion of insulin. Now, this insulin works overtime to bring the level of blood sugar to controllable levels with the result that this level falls very low and you again find yourself craving for another treat after a few hours.
This vicious circle continues if we continue to give in to our cravings.
In most cases, the binging on high sugar foods is followed by pangs of guilt and remorse. Immediately after having allowed yourself that ‘treat’, you know that it was quite the silliest thing to have done.
You have heard so much and also read quite a lot about the benefits of a sugar free diet and the need to cut down those sinful carbohydrates from your diet plan that you begin to curse yourself for yielding in to the temptation.
You know you have consumed too many calories.
You know you have got those calories from the wrong foods.
And you know you that your entire diet chart to which you had vowed to stick to has gone topsy-turvy due to that binging.
But you were so helpless that you could not resist that urge to indulge your sweet tooth.
